My name is Kym Crosby and I am a visual arts teacher at Rock Springs Elementary in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I love teaching children of all ages, and this is just one of the reasons I believe I have the best job in the world. Every forty-five minutes during my work day, I encounter a new group of students, anywhere from ages 5-12. This quick transition from one age to the next keeps me on my toes and requires me to wear many different faces. It is endlessly interesting to hear and watch the imaginations of all students flourish. Nothing brings a smile to my face more than a student who has a new interpretation of an artwork, a process, or an idea. And, this doesn't just happen during my 4th or 5th grade periods; Kindergartners and 5th graders alike have insightful thoughts in the art room that trigger their higher-thinking skills and develop their understanding of the world around them. I appreciate students at each and every age and believe it is the exposure to these learners that has made me a better teacher. The Kindergartners lift my spirits, the first graders inspire my imagination, the second graders make me a more thorough teacher, the third graders remind me of the worth of reassuring encouragement, the fourth graders allow me to explore new materials and processes, and the fifth graders will forever assure me the lessons that are relevant to the students’ lives are always more successful. If you would like to check out what’s going on over the summer break with me or would like to see all the things we will be doing throughout the year, please visit my blog !

Burning Question:
As a teacher, what do you consider to be your greatest strengths (Go ahead...brag a little)? Of these, which came naturally to you and which did you have to work towards?
